Cash Register Management

How to open, operate, and control cash registers in your business in Sarah, including shifts, cash counts, and discrepancy control.

Last updated: 2025-01-29

The Cash Registers module allows you to record all money flow in your business: shift openings, income/expense movements, and daily closings.

A good cash register configuration helps you:

  • Have traceability of who handled money in each shift.
  • Quickly detect cash discrepancies.
  • Generate clear reports by day, user, and payment method.

Key concepts

  • Cash Register: Represents a physical or virtual cash register where collections and cash movements are recorded. Each box can have an optional payment surcharge percentage (e.g. for card payments); this percentage is shown in the boxes table and in the configuration labels, and is applied when collecting via that box in the POS.
  • Shift: Period of time in which a user (or group) operates a cash register.
  • Cash movements: Income or expenses of money that don't come directly from sales (for example, petty cash replenishment, withdrawals, minor expenses).

Typical usage flow

  1. Open a cash register shift with an initial amount.
  2. Record sales from POS (automatically credited to the open cash register).
  3. Record manual movements (income/expenses).
  4. Close the shift and compare expected balance vs. actual balance.
  5. Review daily and per-user reports.
